Hi all,
Here are some upcoming gigs I’m involved with in June, hope to see you at one or more of these:
FRIDAY JUNE 12th Beth Anne Cole/Brian Katz.
Beth Anne and I did a recording of Yiddish songs quite a few years back, a project I was very fond of; she then moved to New York, and is now back. We are going to present a wide ranging evening that somehow has found unification: from Kurt Weill to Gershwin to Yiddish to selections from Sesame Street (no kidding 3 of them!); get the unifying theme?

The Fringe of Toronto Theatre Festival and Dance Umbrella of Ontario’s Dance Initiative announce their presentation of the world premiere of AX-S Dance’s new piece “twentysomethings” at Factory Theatre Mainspace choreographed by Kate Nankervis.
Determined to capitalize on the fun frivolous times of their twenties, four women are faced with the responsibility of defining themselves, and their futures. While the realities and decisions of the ‘real world’ collide, these ‘twentysomethings’ attempt to overcome the Quarterlife Crisis for themselves and each other. These bold Toronto based indie dance artists will propel you through your twenties or remind you of them.

Hi,
I’m going to be writing you soon about my cabaret show with Judith Lander, June 30 at the Old Mill, but first, I MUST let you know about the new Beggar’s Bag show, June 19-20.
All the details are here, but I want to let you know that these shows are really breathtaking. Suzy, Barb and Amber have assembled a cast of kids who rose to the top in their various theatre schools and are now working performers in Toronto. I don’t know everything about the show, because Suzy’s always a little mysterious. She wants to surprise her mom, isn’t that adorable? More »

Teacht i dTír: Voices from Ireland Park
Like the atmospheric park in which it is set, this theatre project memorializes the devastating events surrounding the arrival of 38, 000 Irish immigrants to Toronto during the potato famine of 1847.
Teacht i dTír: Voices from Ireland Park will introduce people to the memorial who have not yet experienced it. By extension, it will share the history of the Irish in Toronto with this new demographic. Equally as significant, it will offer the Irish community in Toronto and southern Ontario an extraordinary theatrical event that reflects their roots and experiences as members of the Irish Diaspora. This project is a convergence of theatre and community. More »

As Gene DiNovi says: The question is: “Does every great classical musician dream of being a great jazz musician, or vice versa?” Magic occurs when two of Canada’s jazz greats, Gene DiNovi and Dave Young, join forces with James Campbell (“Canada’s pre-eminent clarinetist and wind soloist” – Toronto Star). Together, they meld the classical and jazz worlds into a fascinating and entertaining musical program. Their joint CD Manhattan Echoes (Marquis Classics) is selling out on Amazon.com. You gotta hear what they do with tunes like Hoagy Carmichael’s Stardust, or Fat Waller’s Jitterbug Waltz!
