YPT Presents Baobab, a Magical Voyage to West Africa: May 8 – 17

YPT welcomes Montreal’s Théâtre Motus and their enchanting play Baobab. A co-production with the SÔ Company of Mali, this beautiful and tender piece will be presented in the Studio from May 8 to 17.

In this story, inspired by West African legends, an ancient baobab tree stands tall amidst a persistent drought. One day the tree brings forth an egg and from the egg is born a little boy. The villagers recognize that this little boy is the only one who can undertake the quest to bring water back to the land. But there are four formidable tasks to be completed before success is possible. Can a little boy change the history of the world? Using puppetry, masks, and percussion rhythms, Baobab makes powerful change come to life. More »

Young People’s Theatre, “Beyond the Cuckoo’s Nest”: May 7 – 17

Young People’s Theatre is proud to present a brand new play by acclaimed playwright and director Edward Roy. Commissioned by YPT, Beyond the Cuckoo’s Nest is a riveting story exploring teen mental health and the stigma associated with it. The Wendy Kesselman adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank opens March 1 and runs to March 13 at Central Commerce Theatre (with weekday matinees beginning February 23).
