LKTYP, “Pobby and Dingan”: April 20 – May 10

PobbyDingan.jpgLKTYP is proud to present the stage adaptation of Pobby and Dingan. Based on the award-winning book by Australian author, Ben Rice, Pobby and Dingan is a beautiful parable about how even ordinary people can become heroes to help those they love. Adapted for the stage by Paula Wing, Pobby and Dingan runs on the Mainstage between April 20 and May 10. This play was first presented as a staged reading in April 2008, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, as part of New Visions/New Voices.

March Break, “Suddenly Shakespeare”: March 16 – 21

Cast of EARTH=home, Photo: Chris RandleThe Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People is pleased to announce that the most recent production in Judith Marcuse’s trilogy of dance-theatre works for young people, EARTH=home, will be presented on the Mainstage from March 31 to April 9.

Based on three years of workshops with young people from diverse communities, EARTH=home explores the state of the earth – where we are taking it and each other – by examining global warming, diminishing resources, environmental sustainability and social justice. This high-energy, multi-discipline production incorporates original music, dance, theatre, humour and video to tell the tale of a group of young people who are forced to confront their very survival when they are trapped by a cataclysmic storm. As part of their March Break programming the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre is pleased to welcome Vancouver’s Axis Theatre Company and their out of this world physical theatre production The Emperor’s New Threads. The witty adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fable created and staged by Melody and Peter Anderson and featuring Melody’s amazing masks and fabulous costumes, will be presented on the Mainstage from March 15 to 27.

Suitcase Theatre, “The House That Jack Built”: March 16 – 21

It will run March 16-21 at 3pm daily all through March Break at the Church of the Redeemer in the heart of downtown Toronto at Bloor and Avenue Road.

This heartwarming musical combines the magic and allure of masks and puppetry with live singer-actors playing four characters – the Man All-Tattered-and-Torn (Doug Price), the Maiden All Forlorn (JoAnn Brooks), the Cow with the Crumpled Horn (Bie Engelen) and the Priest All Shaven and Shorn (Robert Naismith). They perform with colourful masks, costumes and extraordinary miniature and oversized puppets. More »
