Intended for emerging artists in the music industry looking to explore what makes a successful act in the music business and how to best market themselves. Micah Barnes, a seasoned music industry coach, currently working with the organization Singers Playground, will lead this workshop. For those artists who are struggling or feeling stuck, this workshop will outline a doable agenda for achieving their goals.

Touch the Sky
LKTYP is proud to present Michael Miller’s new play Touch the Sky a new work in celebration of Black History Month. This moving play about faith, hope, love and freedom will be presented on the Mainstage from February 4 to March 1, 2008. Michael also wrote the critically acclaimed play, In The Freedom of Dreams: The Story of Nelson Mandela, which was a highlight of LKTYP’s 2002/03 season.

IMPRINTS FOR A FLEETING MEMORIAL
Internationally renowned Colombian artist, Oscar Muñoz, will be in Toronto to present his first major solo exhibition in North America. Imprints for a Fleeting Memorial, curated by José Roca, is a compilation of Muñoz’s life’s work, spanning more than three decades. The exhibition is travelling internationally, with its first North American stop at Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art.

11 o’clock responds to the shadows cast within the window of convenience by natural and artificial light sources in the immediate environment during the day and night. The installation works with the pattern of shadows and the existing window frame to establish a framework for the woven thread. The shadows and, more specifically, changes in light manipulate the visibility and invisibility – and space – of the constructed lines of fibre. The installation also fluctuates in appearance with the movement of people, cyclists, cars, etc. More »

The next fort event will be Queen Charlotte’s Birthday Ball on January 19th, a day-long celebration of music, food and dance. This year, for the 200th anniversary of the commencement of the Peninsular War, the theme is Portugal and the Anglo-Portuguese alliance. Join us for English Country Dancing, a Port Tasting and a wonderful Georgian dinner (buffet-style) featuring Portuguese influenced recipes found in early nineteenth century British cookery books. The volunteer historic cooks have been busy testing and sampling recipes and the results have been delicious! See page 8 of the newsletter for more information.
