Klezmer meets free improvisation at Mezzetta
Jonno Lightstone (clarinet and flute), Brian Katz (Classical guitar) and David Mott (baritone Sax) are joining forces once again, to push klezmer music into post-modern territory. This is an arena in which Hasidic and Jewish traditions encounter free form improvisation and anything may happen. The Show Off presents the work of the class of 2011, an eclectic mix of more than 500 graduating students working in twelve undergraduate programs ranging from drawing and painting, printmaking, photography, criticism and curatorial practice, integrated media and sculpture/installation in the Faculty of Art, to advertising, environmental, industrial and graphic design, illustration and material art and design (jewellery, fibre and ceramics) in the university’s Faculty of Design. Each year, the annual Graduate Exhibition transforms the university’s main building and the acclaimed Sharp Centre for Design into the biggest exhibition of the year. More »
Open Studio Visiting Artists, Caitlin Erskine-Smith and Joy Walker: Opening May 5
Open Studio is pleased to present the first of two 2011 Visiting Artists’ Exhibitions featuring Toronto-based artists Caitlin Erskine-Smith and Joy Walker, May 5 – June 11, 2011. Each year, Open Studio selects four professional artists with or without printmaking experience to create works in the print medium of their choice, working collaboratively with a print media artist. These exhibitions by Erskine-Smith and Walker are the result of this intensive work period.

York University’s Summer Institute in Film features the Yes Men: May 11
‘Yes Man’ Andy Bichlbaum is the keynote presenter for Digital Activism and the Environment, the 2011 Summer Institute in Film to be held May 11 to 17 by York’s University’s Faculty of Fine Arts.
Bichlbaum will present “The Yes Men Fix Canada”, a public how-to-hoax clinic, on May 11 at the Ontario College of Art & Design University Auditorium. The event is presented under the auspices of the Norman Jewison Series in York’s Department of Film, in collaboration with OCADU’s Faculty of Art. More »
