Lower Ossington Theatre, “Spring Awakening”: Sept 21 – October 8
The Lower Ossington Theatre (The LOT), will be opening their first season with the Canadian premiere of “Spring Awakening” directed by Michael Rubenstein. This performance will be presented on stage at The Lower Ossington
Theatre, located at 100A Ossington Avenue. The dates and times for the performance are as followed: September 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, October 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 at 8pm. As well, there will be a 4PM matinee performance on September 25 and October 2. More »
Alumnae Theatre, “After Mrs. Rochester”: Sept 23 – Oct 7
Jean Rhys (1890 – 1979) was a troubled, Caribbean-born chorus girl turned writer who strongly identified with a fictional counterpart – Mr. Rochester’s mad first wife in Charlotte Brontë’s classic 1847 novel Jane Eyre. In 1966, after decades of silence, Jean Rhys produced her masterpiece, a Jane Eyre prequel titled Wide Sargasso Sea told from the perspective of Rochester’s unhappy West Indian bride. British playwright Polly Teale’s labyrinthine drama interweaves the demons haunting Jean with her fictional obsession to explore their toll on the writer’s stormy life. Toronto Palestine Film Festival: Sept 30 – Oct 7
From September 30-October 7, 2011, TPFF will screen 24 films by Palestinian and international filmmakers. The festival will debut 11 Canadian premieres, 9 North American premieres and 3 Toronto premieres. “The stories of women feature prominently in this year’s selection of films,” stated festival programmer Dania Majid. Ahuri Theatre, “A Fool’s Life”: Sept 30 – Oct 8
Ahuri Theatre, in association with Why Not Theatre, announces the world premiere of A Fool’s Life, a fantastical tale of a family man coming undone, conceived and directed by Ahuri Theatre Artistic Director Dan Watson. Inspired by the life and work of celebrated Japanese writer Akutagawa Ryunosuke, regarded as the “father of the Japanese short story,” A Fool’s Life opens September 30 and runs to October 8 at The Theatre Centre, with a preview on September 29. The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre will also present a version of the play on September 23. More »
