Talk Is Free Theatre (TIFT) and Show One Productions are thrilled to announce the Toronto debut of Dani Girl, a musical by Christopher Dimond and Michael Kooman. A touching, humorous and inspiring tale, this dark, original musical comedy follows a young girl’s battle with cancer. Starring Gabi Epstein, Jeff Madden, Amanda LeBlanc and Jonathan Logan, Dani Girl opens February 18, 2012 and runs until March 4, 2012 at the Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace. More »
Bathurst Street Theatre, “Zero Hour”: February 8 – March 11
Jim Brochu brings Zero Mostel back to extraordinary life in Zero Hour. He re-creates the definitive backstory to this amazing performer’s appearances in such shows as Fiddler on the Roof, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Mel Brooks’ The Producers (film) and many more. Brochu is both hilarious and poignant as he recounts Mostel’s big life – as a Broadway legend, a larger than life personality and the target of Hollywood blacklisting.
Necessary Angel & The Film Farm, “Divisadero: a performance”
Necessary Angel, in association with The Film Farm, is proud to announce the return of Divisadero: a performance, adapted by Michael Ondaatje from his Governor General Award-winning novel, and directed by Necessary Angel’s Artistic Director, Daniel Brooks.
The production reunites the original cast of Liane Balaban, Maggie Huculak, Tom McCamus, Amy Rutherford and Justin Rutledge – the Juno-nominated musician who created music specifically for the piece. Performances run February 8-26 (with community and media night February 9) at Theatre Passe Muraille’s Mainspace, 16 Ryerson Avenue. More »
Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie, Les cheminements de l’influence: Feb 15 – 25
The acclaimed Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie (CLC) presents the world premiere of Les cheminements de l’influence (Pathways of Influence), a striking solo dance work created and performed by CLC co-Artistic Director Laurence Lemieux as a tribute to her father, eminent political scientist and sociologist Vincent Lemieux. With original music by Gordon Monahan, this new work runs February 15 – 25, 2012, the first official work to be presented at CLC’s new home, the Citadel, a new centre for contemporary dance. More »
Obeah Opera: Feb 16 – March 4
b current Performing Arts in co-production with Theatre Archipelago proudly presents the full stage mounting of Obeah Opera. A total musical journey with a twist, the evocative production celebrates significant influence of black music combining blues, folk, jazz, gospel, spirituals, R&B, and traditional genres. Created (book, libretto, and music) by Nicole Brooks, this mesmerizing work will be presented as part of Black History Month at the 918 Bathurst Cultural Centre from February 16 – March 4, 2012.
