Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie, “Varenka, Varenka!”: March 21 – 31, 2012

CLC_Varenka_E_poster.jpgColeman Lemieux & Compagnie proudly presents Varenka, Varenka!, an acclaimed 2003 choreographic work from co-Artistic Director Laurence Lemieux that runs March 21-31 at the company’s new dance centre in Regent Park, The Citadel.

Inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky’s first novel Poor Folk, the literary work is presented as a series of letters between Makar Dievushkin and Varenka Dobroselova that tells a tragic tale of an aging clerk and his love for a young woman. A profound account of the lives of the poor in the mid-nineteenth century Russia, their sincere affection for each other transforms into the downfall of one of them. More »

Mariposa in the Schools & Echo Choir: March 31

Save the date for OCAD U’s Project 31 art auction

OCAD University will launch Toronto’s art auction season with its third annual Project 31 fundraiser in support of art and design students and programs.

One of the city’s most accessible art collecting events, Project 31 is a live art auction, held on Thursday, March 29, offering up stunning paintings, photography, limited edition prints, sculpture, textiles and fibre, illustration, jewellery and digital media by OCAD U’s talented faculty members, and a few specially invited guests. 3-2-1 Blast off! Join the Avenue Road Arts School for our 3rd annual children’s exhibit. The show will feature 2 & 3-dimensional artwork along with interactive pieces created by the young students at the School.  Travel through outer space and encounter aliens, astronauts and futuristic worlds.
Opening reception will take place on Tuesday March 27th from 6-8pm with refreshments, snacks and art activities.
