Harbourfront, Toronto Storytelling Festival: March 29 – April 1, 2012

2012 Toronto Festival of Storytelling will be a celebration and exploration of all things ‘Canadian’ from Thursday, March 29 to Sunday, April 1, 2012, with the final day, April 1, being held at Harbourfront Center. Through stories that reveal our identity, we will explore our triumphs, contributions, uniqueness, struggles and growth as a nation. From our First Nations’ origins and European influences of the past, to the more recent arrival of immigrants from Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, Asia and the Americas- our country and its identity is constantly being reshaped. Tarragon Theatre, “Was Spring”: April 4 – May 6, 2012

Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie, “Varenka, Varenka!”: March 21 – 31, 2012

CLC_Varenka_E_poster.jpgColeman Lemieux & Compagnie proudly presents Varenka, Varenka!, an acclaimed 2003 choreographic work from co-Artistic Director Laurence Lemieux that runs March 21-31 at the company’s new dance centre in Regent Park, The Citadel.

Inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky’s first novel Poor Folk, the literary work is presented as a series of letters between Makar Dievushkin and Varenka Dobroselova that tells a tragic tale of an aging clerk and his love for a young woman. A profound account of the lives of the poor in the mid-nineteenth century Russia, their sincere affection for each other transforms into the downfall of one of them. More »

Mariposa in the Schools & Echo Choir: March 31

Echo choirMariposa In The Schools and Echo Women’s Choir unite their talents in Voices in the Dark on Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at Toronto’s Church of the Holy Trinity, 10 Trinity Square (behind the Eaton Centre/wheelchair accessible).

Anne Lederman, Chris Rawlings, Njacko Backo, Sandra Whiting, Dan Yashinsky and other artists from Mariposa In The Schools join Echo in a spirited evening of song and story.
