LKTYP, “Routes” by Collin Doyle: public performance Nov 14, schools Nov 9 – 18,
Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People (LKTYP) is pleased to welcome Edmonton’s Concrete Theatre and their powerful, award-winning production of Routes by Collin Doyle. Directed by Mieko Ouchi, Routes will be presented in the Studio November 9 to 18, 2010. There will be only one public performance of the teen drama Routes by Collin Dolye on Sunday, November 14 at 2:30 PM.
Winner of the 2010 Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for Outstanding Production for Young Audiences, Routes is a riveting play that delves into the impact of violence through the eyes of Tom, a fifteen year-old boy. Tom escapes the violence at home by riding his local bus until closing. As he journeys along the route of his nine previous homes, we discover the ties that connect the violence at home to acts of bullying among students at his school and the killing of a man by four teens on that very route.
November 14-20 is Bullying Awareness Week in Canada and performances will be accompanied by a talkback, co-facilitated by LKTYP and Boost: Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention. This emotional and thought-provoking play provides an ideal opportunity for parents and teachers to open a dialogue on the subject with young people.
Starring: Joshua Beaudry. Directed by Mieko Ouchi. Production Design by David Fraser; Sound Design by Dave Clarke; Stage Manager Nicole Piotrkowski.
