Steam Whistle is passionate about doing one thing really, really well leading to hosting events such as the UNSIGNED concert series (now in fourth year running). The September 30thshow hosted in the brewery’s Beer Hall will feature Bonjay’shigh-energy sound system of bass and soul, a stripped-down electro-shoegazePowers, and HotKid’sshake me, move me rock’n roll. Doors open at 8pm and tickets are only $5 at the door with all proceeds from ticket sales going back to the community through the Artists’ Health Centre Foundation.
About the Bands:
Inspired by the underground music of the last 30 years, Bonjay are unencumbered by the restrictions of style and attitude that traditionally divided genres. They were born in a basement at Ottawa’s legendary Disorganised parties and with Alanna on the mic and Pho on beats & effects, their live performance is a high-energy sound system. Dancehall innovation, indie sentiments, and R&B hooks are all booming out from the jeeps, towers and headphones of young Toronto.
Formed from the ashes of The Ghost is Dancing,Powers’ new sound relies on a loud, in your-face mix of delay-heavy vocals, guitar, samples and synths. The layered and immediately catchy result sometimes sounds like a dance version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.
Shiloh Harrison (guitar/vox) and Rob Butcher III (drums) lay down 4 sweaty tracks on their new EP “Under The Streetlight,” available on limited edition coloured 10? vinyl and digital download at Zunior.com. Fresh from the road touring in the US with Sloan, HOTKID have recently released their latest video for the single “Rip It Into Pieces”.
