Montreal theatre company, Coffeehouse Theatre, will be presenting a wildly hilarious comedy, “The Underpants”, adapted by Steve Martin and directed by Evan Harkai. This performance will be presented at the Red Sandcastle Theatre, 922 Queen Street East. The dates for the performances are as followed: September 16, 17, 18, 22, 23 and 24. All shows will begin at 8PM with an additional 2PM matinee performance on the 23rd and 24th.
“The Underpants”, originally written by Carl Sternheim and now adapted by the comedic genius of Steve Martin, revolves around Louise Maske; an ignored housewife whose underpants unexpectedly fall down while watching the King’s parade. Shortly after, various men begin showing up, under the guise of renting her and her husband Theo’s spare room, but secretly hoping to have an affair with the mysterious woman whose underpants captured their lustful imagination. This fast-paced farce is a non-stop stream of witty jokes that poke fun at the uptight bourgeois lifestyle of pre-war Europe and its views of politics and sex within the middle-class.
Tickets for the performance are $15 for students and $18 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the Red Sandcastle Theatre Box Office. To purchase tickets please call 416-845-9411.
About Coffeehouse Theatre:
Coffeehouse Theatre is an independent emerging artist-founded theatre company. Coffeehouse Theatre aims to continue to work with emerging theatre artists both on stage and off, engaging new audiences with contemporary works that not only entertain, but inspire creativity and an enthusiasm for the arts. Having recently branched out to Toronto to mount shows between the two cities, the company is always continually pushing its own boundaries. This was last seen in our production of, “The Underpants: A Play in 72 Hours” which was designed, produced, rehearsed and then performed at the end of a non-stop 3 day (72 hour) rehearsal period.
