Black Box Fire, “Down the Road”: May 8 – 16

Some people are dying to be famous. One man would kill for it.

Black Box Fire is proud to present Down The Road, a psychological thriller by Lee Blessing. Down the Road will run May 8 – 16 at the Hamilton Theatre Inc studio theatre (140 MacNab St N).

The story centres on a convicted serial killer and the husband and wife team hired to help him write an account of his crimes. The killer, Bill Reach, has admitted to the murder of 19 women, but there may have been more. More »

Dundas Little Theate, “The Suicide”: May 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16

The Suicide,  by Nicolai Erdman

A brilliant and penetrating satire about an unemployed man who contemplates suicide and is besieged by spokespeople of discontented groups, from butchers to intellectuals, who want him to turn his suicide into a gesture on their behalf. Erdman’s genius was recognized by his contemporaries including Brecht, Stanislavsky and Meyerhold. The latter two competed to do The Suicide. Stalin gave permission to present the play only after Gorki pleaded with him, but it was not allowed to open following a year of rehearsal. More »
