AGH Film, “Waste Land”: Oct 13

AGH film series screens Waste Land, a documentary about the impoverished and the power of the human spirit, on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 pm at the Empire Jackson Square 6 Cinemas, 2 King Street West, downtown Hamilton.

Tickets are $6.00 for AGH Members (including student e-Members), $8.00 for students and seniors and $10.00 for general admission.  Tickets may be purchased online in advance at www.artgalleryofhamilton.com, in person at the AGH’s Front Desk during Gallery hours or at the venue door the evening of the screening beginning at 6:30 pm. The Canadian Journey: Sarah Lillian Floyd 1870 – 1871 is an ambitious installation of large scale drawings, paintings and text inspired by V. Jane Gordon’s own travels, researches and interaction with the Canadian landscape. In this exhibition Gordon has created a narrative about 19th century ‘explorer’ Sarah Lillian Floyd and ‘documents’ Floyd’s physical, psychological and emotional response to her experiences travelling in central Canada in 1870 and 1871. Gordon finds this period particularly interesting. More »

Dundas Little Theatre, “Fair Liberty’s Call”: Oct 22 – Nov 6

Fifty years ago in the home of the late Don Garstin a group of local theatre enthusiasts created Dundas Little Theatre. Twenty years later, needing a place to call their own, a team of dedicated supporters and the (now former) Town of Dundas established a permanent site. The Garstin Centre For The Arts (a former swimming pool) was designed by Hamilton Place Architect Trevor Garwood-Jones; the pool was filled in and the auditorium built over it. More »
