Akira Kurosawas (Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Ran), Dreams is a lyrical, critical, magical film with stunning imagery and poignant metaphor. In this eight-part film characters reappear in extraordinary places: travelers in a blizzard bewitched by a snow fairy; a small boy spies on a wedding procession of foxes; crows rise majestically above a wheat field; sixty dolls come to life on a hillside under falling peach blossoms; an explosion in a nuclear power plant brings Mount Fuji down in flames. In one dream sequence, Martin Scorsese appears as Vincent Van Gogh. Rated PG.
