TLC Project Fundraising Gala: May 31
You are cordially invited to join us for the . . .
TLC Project Fundraising Gala
at the Pearl Company Art Centre (16 Steven Street)
on Saturday May 31st at 6:00 PM
An evening of dinner and music celebrating the expansion of the TLC (Theatre of Liberation) Project Sessions for young people in the Landsdale neighbourhood and beyond.
The TLC Project uses arts-based activities to help children and teenagers develop a greater knowledge of themselves and a larger understanding of their environment locally and globally. We will be summer programing and in September, we will be offering TLC after-school programing as well. We are very excited about this venture!
TLC Project sessions are founded on the six Peace Principles taken from the UN Peace Manifesto 2000: 1) Respect All Life 2) Reject Violence 3) Share with Others 4) Listen to Understand 5) Preserve the Environment 6) Work for Solidarity
TLC Project artists believe it is crucial for young people to develop skills to creatively express themselves. The program is designed to allow children and youth to participate in fun, artistic activities during the summer and after school; the goal is to improve the participants communication skills and their ability to think critically ensuring greater success in school and in society. Artists like Augusto Boal and David Diamond (from whom the inspiration for the program has emerged) have worked with some of the most marginalized and disadvantaged citizens of the world. Their work has moved TLC Project artists to find creative ways to work with the socio-economically challenged youth of Hamilton . Using the power of drama, music and the visual arts the TLC Project has and wishes to continue to improve the lives of young people in the Landsdale neighbourhood and all areas of Hamilton . TLC program participants will acquire interpersonal and academic skills in a safe, inclusive, fun filled environment. The program fosters personal growth through an artistic, innovative approach to community development.
For a generous donation of only $30 or more, you will enjoy locally grown food and be entertained by talented local musicians. All the while, your participation will provide young people of our community with an opportunity that will help them learn respect for themselves, their peers and others in the community. It all takes place at the Pearl Company ( 16 Steven St .). Doors open at 5:30pm. Herbal teas & other organic drinks will be available. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm, so come early and take in the art exhibition which will include TLC Summer Art Project paintings.
