“Langston Hughes vs. Joe McCarthy”: Artword Theatre presents a cabaret evening to honour Black History Month: Friday February 27, 2009 at 8 pm. $10 at the door.On March 24, 1953, Langston Hughes, renowned poet of the Harlem Renaissance, was summoned before the McCarthy Committee investigating communist subversion in the USA. This dramatic and musical evening interweaves some of his testimony with selected poems. With the election of Barack Obama, it is worth looking back at how things were only a short time ago.
