Noted Toronto dancer and choreographer Michael Du Maresq returns to Artword with a new dance work called and in this room.... The full-length performance runs in the new Artword Alternative performance space from March 20 to 23, 2002.
and in this room… is an exploration of childhood memories, performed by dancers Leanne Dixon, Michael Du Maresq, Bonnie Kim and Darryl Tracy. A highly collaborative work, Du Maresq has asked each dancer to delve into their own childhood to retrieve memories, exploring these with text, movement and song.
Du Maresq says, “The new work is like opening the doors of our past, looking through the windows, rummaging
through the closets to find the things that make up the myriad of emotions, colours, games, people and experiences that we had.”
The new work is an extension of Du Maresq’s solo Blue Button which premiered at Artword in 1998. Both pieces, though personal, have a universality of theme.
Michael Du Maresq’s recent dance film hollow premiered at the Moving Pictures festival at Harbourfront in October, 2001.
Michael’s work Dancing Barefoot with Patti, based on the poems and music of rocker Patti Smith, and danced by Leanne Dixon, premiered at Artword Theatre in 1998 and was remounted in 1999.
