Celebrating
ten years of creating evocative and visually stunning
theatre, Theatre Gargantua (The Trials- Fortunes
Desire, Raging Dreams into the visceral, love not
love and THE EXIT ROOM) is proud to unveil its fifth cycle
of work and development, Phantom Limb. A Co-production with
the dynamic Welsh physical theatre company 2021 Performance.
Phantom Limb, originally premiered as part of a month
long tour of England and Wales featuring stops in
Manchester, Liverpool and a week-long engagement at London's
renown Riverside Studio. Toronto will get its chance to see
Phantom Limb starting on April 11, 2002 when it makes its
Canadian Premiere in Toronto at Artword Theatre.
Spirited,
poignant, familiar, this bold new work explores the impact
of loss and separation in our lives and probes why what is
lost is never truly gone. The story is that of an
artist/writer; John Mackie, whose poetic work " Phantom Limb
" overtook his life. Six characters, (friends of his)
conjure up the missing John from memory and photographs,
slowly revealing who he was and how his life influenced each
of theirs. Integrating text, choreography, live and recorded
music, video projection, and a bold design this enticing
co-production brings a remarkable array of movement, sound
and drama to Toronto in an engaging performance that will
remain with the theatergoer long after the curtain call.
Here's
what they've said of Phantom Limb
...this
is a work full of affection and also some pain, with the
anguish of loss humorously offset by memories of physical
pain, through a recurring motif of broken limbs.
Manchester Evening News
