Artword Productions 2002-2003 Working Together on
Stage Dance Workout Theatre Exploration Workshop takes place in the Artword
Alternative theatre, with a sprung dance floor and an
intimate theatre environment. Workout clothing and bare feet
or socks. Cost: $150 ($135 for CADA and Equity
members) for the 6-week program. Limited to a maximum of 20

Portland Street, Toronto M5V 2M9 Janet Atkinson is
Artistic Director and Choreographer of The Zeus Opera Dance
Company, which incorporates dance, myth, acting, singing and
visual art in its major theatre works. Zeus Opera has
created the Episode and Portable Dance Series, which have
been performed at festivals including the North by Northeast
Music Festival, and at Artword Theatre in a boxing ring.
Janet was principal dancer with the German expressionist
based dance company, Gina Lori Riley Dance Enterprises. She
trained at Toronto Dance Theatre and in New York at the
Merce Cunningham Studio and the Broadway Dance Centre for
Fosse style dance. Zeus Opera's second major dance theatre
work will première at Artword this fall. Janet
choreographed the Artword production of Toronto The
Good this year. Ronald Weihs,
director and playwright, founded Artword Theatre in 1993
along with Judith Sandiford. Artword Theatre productions
directed by Ronald Weihs include Toronto The Good
(2002), an original musical based on Toronto in the 1890s,
Charly Chiarellis Mangiacake!, (2001, 2002),
and CuFu?: Stories of a Sicilian Family
(2001,1999, 1996). He directed Allan Merovitzs If
Cows Could Fly: Growing Up Jewish in Smiths
Falls, (2000, 2001). Productions written and directed
for Artword include Whoever You Are (1997), Echo
and Narcissus (1996), Chaucers Troilus and
Criseyde (1995), me2 (1994), and Mama Says You
Are What You Do (1994). He collaborated with director
George Luscombe of Toronto Workshop Productions on the
script for The Wobbly (1982, 1983) and wrote The
Beavers for Native Earth and Theatre Resource Centre
(1985). In British Columbia, he wrote Hands Up! (The Bill
Miner Story) for Caravan Stage Company (1977, 1983) and
wrote and directed the musical Highball
(1981).
