e-DENTITY
- the newest exploration of work from award-winning Theatre
Gargantua - logs into the virtual and hypnotic world of
internet communication, where reality is restricted only by
what you can type. Directed by Jacquie P.A. Thomas, with
original script by Michael Spence, e-DENTITY is the first
instalment of Theatre Gargantua's seventh cycle of
work
e-DENTITY
is an exploration of the loss of identity and connection
that occurs in modern, digitized, electronic communication.
Who is the individual when the only face shown to the world
is a login name? How do you relate?
e-DENTITY
is a timely and critical look at the obsessive and
anonymous realm of cyber communication and its impact on
human interaction.
Five actors play in a virtual world that has too quickly
been taken for granted; where efficiency is paramount and
human needs are met by the latest technology. Theatre
Gargantua imports the cyber theatre onto the theatre
stage: e-DENTITY takes the audience virtually
into the virtual by combining the company's characteristic
multidisciplinary innovation with live video-mixing,
simultaneous chat and web broadcast.
Theatre Gargantua, known for
its bold theatricality and stunning visual presentations
since the company's formation in 1992, has been nominated
for 24 Dora Mavor Moore Awards. Our most recent production,
(nod) (Fall 2003), garnered nominations for Outstanding
Production, Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Set
Design.
This new
production combines the award-winning talents not only of
Theatre Gargantua ensemble members but also lighting and
co-set designer (with Michael Spence) Stephan Droege,
costume designer Angela Thomas, and media artists Naveen
Goswamy and Jeremy Rotsztain.
