Judy was Judith Merril, and jazz is John T. Davis. Judy was our dear friend and a grand dame, famous science fiction writer and anthologist, fighter for justice and humanity. She introduced us to John T. Davis, a remarkable jazz keyboard player (plays anything with keys, but his favorite is a huge Hammond organ) and singer, who is generally to be heard co-fronting a band with Jim Heineman.

When we opened Artword Theatre for the first time, we wanted to set a standard that we'd always have to match ever afterward. So we had to have Judy and John T. open our theatre. And they did. Judy read from her memoirs-in-progress with John T. improvising, and then John T. played and sang as only he can.

Judy's gone now. We did a play based on her short story Whoever You Are. She died just before we opened. We miss her. At the same time, she still seems like she's around.

Hi Judy!
