Mendelson Joe is a legendary Toronto musician, songwriter and painter. He has been to the top of the pops and walked away. Now he does what he wants, and what he wants to do is wonderful. Not suffering fools gladly, his paintings pull no punches when it comes to Canadian politics. His songs are full of love and passion.

Horrible January weather meant a small audience, but Mendelson Joe sang and played to us like the weather didn't matter and we did. An unforgettable night.

One stipulation was no smoking. At that time, we had a little smoking area out in the hall. But Mendelson Joe said "let them know up front that they can't smoke when I'm around. Call it The Original Mendelson Joe No Smoke Night." So we did.

Joe says: "In adversity, one must go forward. . . . Our musical culture is dictated by earless accountants and lawyers."
