White is perhaps best known these days as a co-writer of the musical “Anne and Gilbert” and cd’s like “Stickers on Fruit”, “Gaelic Envy” and “Momnipotent: Songs for Weary Parents”. For many years she wrote and sang topical songs for CBC radio’s “Sunday Morning”. This summer she sang at the Mariposa and Calgary folk festivals, and has recently teamed up with renowned cabaret singer Judith Lander to perform the songs of Weill, Brel and Sondheim, as well as their own original material. Their first concert at Toronto’s “Old Mill” was a huge success.
“I’m thrilled to be playing at Ron and Judith’s club,” says White. “When they ran Artword Theatre in Toronto I did several concerts and went to a lot of shows there. They are great friends to artists, musical and visual, and I expect they’re spreading the same good vibe in Hamilton. They have learned to make espresso, and once Ron masters the mysteries of the cash register, well, look out world!!!”
Nancy has sung in Hamilton “several times but not often enough” over the years, first at the Festival of Friends, then at Hamilton Place, where she did a pops concert with Boris Brott conducting, and most recently at a fundraiser at Shalom Village, hosted by Eugene Levy. “Meeting Eugene Levy was pretty breathtaking,” she recalls,” but playing for that audience, pretty much the best ever, was almost as good. I hope some of those folks will come to hear us at Artword Artbar.”
The two-set show starts at 8 p.m. There’s a baby grand piano. Nancy will bring her banjo. Bob will do his John Deere imitation. There’s art on the walls. There’s espresso and light snacks. Nachos. Beer. Riotous, fabulous evenings are rumoured to have already been happening there.
Cover charge is $12. Artword Artbar is an intimate room. Reservations are recommended.
