Jazz with the Artie Roth Quartet, Friday Oct 21

Friday October 21, 2016, at 8 pm, $15 / $10 students. The Artie Roth Quartet performs new music from their recent album Discern. The Toronto-based jazz group: Artie Roth acoustic bass/compositions, Geoff Young electric guitar, Anthony Michelli drums, Mike Filice saxophone. Their music is aggressive, melodic and groovy, and at other times sublime and spacious. Full of catchy melodic hooks and bass lines, Discern is cutting-edge composing and improvisation influenced by Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Dave Holland. Discern was co-produced by Grammy nominated, Genie award winning New York/Hamilton-born producer Roman Klun at the historic Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton, Ontario. As a leader, Artie released Parallels in 2005, Currently Experiencing in 2013 and released Discern in fall 2015.  www.artieroth.com
